dumb question but wanted to ask lol

has anyone every had any deaths from trying to breed?
i ask because my 1500 g female is a bit defensive usually and my little 600 g male is very calm and docile.
i can just imagine her striking at him or worse. this is very unlikely right?
don't want to come home to a missing snake lol
just wanted the piece of mind

I've never heard of it happening during breeding, but when cohabing you can get cases of canibalism. As far as her being defensive I would put him in there and just observe them for a couple minutes and if she's not having it then remove him. Also I've always heard you want to put the male into the females cage. Just my two cents. I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in soon. It is the middle of the work week after all

It's rare but it can happen. I don't think the male or female killing its mate is an issue as much as a female getting egg-bound, retaining an egg or slug and becoming septic, a male ending up with an infected hemipene, etc.

This is why you need to have access to a good herp vet / exotics specialist if you plan to breed, not just a small animal vet who knows just enough to push Baytril for an RI. Problems are rare, but when they crop up they're deadly.
