    opinions......
So I have some extra money from my tax refund. I currently have the plastic shelving unit racks for my 20 snakes. I am picking up a 10 shelf c serpents c70 rack this weekend. I am thinking about getting 2 dragons4you combo racks. I am also having a bad mite problem and would have to disassemble the racks I have now just to spray them

My question is would you buy the professional racks or disassemble the racks you already have to trear the mites

    I'd buy a can of Provent-a-Mite and call it a day. http://pro-products.com/provent-a-mite/

I would treat the mite problem I have now, and any new caging/tubs/racks/etc would be cleaned, treated with a permethrin-based product, and allowed to try before being used.

    Kill it with fire! :taz:

Seriously though, do what Ricky's reptiles said.

I'm trying to eliminate a mite problem myself, and am waiting for my can of PAM to arrive in the mail.

You really don't need to disassemble your racks to treat them for mites. Yes, mites will lay their eggs in cracks and crevices and those eggs are pretty impervious to just about anything so there is not much you can do to kill the eggs. What you CAN do is spray with a permethrin based poison like Provent-a-mite. The beauty of provent-a-mite isn't that it kills mites, it's that when properly applied it continues killing mites for months. This way, it kills the baby mites as they hatch which will break the mite cycle so you don't find yourself being re-infested over and over and over again.

the only reason I need to disassemble to racks is to move them out of my house when I sprayed them. I do not want to spray the provent a mite as I also have cats and permetherin is toxic to them. What if I don't spray the racks but just the tubs, would that kill the mites?

You need to spray the tubs and the racks. Is there any way to keep the cats out of the room while you treat the racks in place?

I remember in another thread concerning mites, someone said they sprayed PAM on a paper towel, then placed that in the BP's tub once it dried.

Is it safe to leave that in with the animal?
