QT one snake comes out 2 go in
I have been observing a new addition for any illness that may show up after we got home. Seems great clean and a eater he is. Took his first meal F/T (he came with about 30 large mice.) day after we got home then again on his 6th day. I'm confident he's health I saw the conditions he came from and he was a loved pet.
How long do YOU QT your new guys?
tonight I got a banana and a bumblebee and as the collection grows I'd feel horrible getting one snake sick but now I'm up to 7 I'm also concerned at cost of 7 RI treatments or mites. I sanitize with OCD like changing paper towels multiple times daily.disinfect prevent and I found new clear tubs I like so they are brand new then cleaned.
one more thing I keep the QT tub downstairs away from main snakes area. Is this overkill? I've already gone up and down like 10 times just to check on them

This is mainly for colubrids though; I get the impression that QT for contrictors is a bit more intense so maybe it wouldn't take quite as long?
Wow, than I'm gonna go do some reading and research I am defiantly not an authority and havent got close from reading some threads.
how do you get a ready to breed female that QTs for 3 months? :tears:

lol I know you'd ideally QT all snakes in another room (I'm currently using my parents' house as QT since they are into snakes and have my old room free) but I know a lot of ppl who QT colubrids in the same room and just don't handle or use the same equipment. Of course I'm not aware of any really devastating diseases that can spread through a colubrid collection like they can with constrictors so the procedure may be different.

Don't take this the wrong way but I would be much more concerned about my animals health and well being over if one is ready to breed. If you got a new female ready to breed and have 7 snakes, think of it this way, you manage to breed that one female but now you got 7 snakes with RI or IBD and bam you just lost your set up if its IBD and if its RI, well then you are looking at probably around $1000+ to have them all checked out and treated and that's assuming your vet gives you a group discount. I don't breed yet but when/if I do, my main concern will be my collections well being over making a few bucks and since if I do breed, it will be for morphs I like and maybe want to add to my collection over turning a buck.

90 days minimum and to answer your question: You don't, not worth the risk to any of my animals.
If you add any animals to QT then the time starts over for everyone already there too.
