What am I doing wrong?

I decided to set up my tub today, a day in advance before I planned on picking up my new ball.

I set up everything, and waited a few hours so my UTH could get hot. I have 12 holes on one side, and 12 on the opposite side. Nothing else was done to the tub. I poured water into the dish, water cool but close to room temperature now. The UTH is at 92 degrees currently. My tub? Not so much haha.

I'm not sure of ambient temperatures, but it is on the cool side, and I don't have any heaters unfortunately. And my humidity is really bad? Any help would be great.

I took out a lot of the bedding also, but it hasn't helped much. Still at the same temp.

1. You need at least 2 hides. One hot one cold.

2. put the water over the UTH and the humidity will rise as the water gets warmer.

3. It takes a few hours with the top on for humidity and ambient temps to stabilize.

4. You should get a infrared thermometer to get heat readings for surfaces

5. You can add insulation to the top and sides to the tank to decrease heat loss

6 Water has a lot of thermal mass and sucks up heat until it reaches equalibrium

Why did you poke so many holes before seeing what the humidity would be like?

That's why it's better to start with zero holes and see how the humidity is. It's easier to make new holes if you have too few, than unmake old ones if you have too many.

Well, you can always tape over some of the holes from the outside to help the humidity. How cool is the room where the tub is? If the ambient temp is in the 70's, most smaller UTH with have a really hard time keeping the temps in the proper range, that's why I tell a lot of people who are having that problem to use a room heater if they can, it can make a huge difference. The water bowl is really too big for that tub, and while lots of water can be good for humidity, it can make heating things up even harder.

If a room heater is not an option for you, you can look into a slightly larger UTH, or if necessary a CHE to place in a light dome and place over the tub. You won't want it to sit on the tub obviously, but they make little stands you can use to keep it 8 inches or so away and that may also help. It is important that the probe is resting on the bottom of the tub itself to get an accurate temp reading. You may need to increase the temp on your UTH by a few degrees and let it sit overnight then check it again in the morning. It can take a few days of trial and error to get things right, especially if it's your first time setting up a tub. Once you get one right, the next one will be easier.

i think your sensor shouldn't be placed underneath the substrate. if you do, it won't be able to read the correct ambient humidity in the tub, it will, instead read humidity underneath the substrate, in which aspen/wood chips are very absorbent of moisture.
if u need to read the temperature, get another thermometer for that purpose. i think with the sensor placed correctly, you will read a higher humidity level given your large water bowl and very few vent holes.
try placing a smaller water bowl, as BPs don't usually soak in their bowls (like burms and retics) unless you have mite problems or the ambient temp is too hot. plus you don't want your BP to get wet all the time while roaming around the limited space. high humidity + dampness for a prolonged period can lead to unwanted scale/belly rot. hope this helps. :)

Perhaps invest in a glass terrarium? Petsmart has them for a buck a gallon right now.

Sorry for not replying!! I have been really busy this weekend, and fixed everything according to research and all your guys advice. I actually did go out and buy a 40 gallon terrarium, as the tub wasn't working out for me. I wanted to say thank you all for helping me try and fix what I did wrong! After trying multiple things and it not working out, I decided to just invest in a glass terrarium. :)

The downside to using tubs (the only downside in my book) is the fact that the cool side / ambient temperature will almost always be determined by the ambient temperature of the room.

I have that same exo terra hygro/therm and it did not work too good for me. Go to walmart and look for acurites, I find these to be the best. Get the $12 one with the probe. That exo terra hygro was reading at 80% humidity at all times. I have it outside just on a shelf and it reads 75%. I'm in Florida where it is humid, but inside is not 75% humidity. Maybe yours is accurate and the exoterra I got was defective, but try getting the acurite.
