Anyone feed there balls mice?

Anyone ever kept there balls on mice if they wouldn't change over too rats? If so do they pack on weight the same? Just not near as fast I would presume I have a one that isn't too interested in rats but seems to be getting a lot of weight still on her

Lot of people have dedicated mousers. As long as you feed them enough mice, they'll put on weight just like the others.

They can grow their full potential on mice yes , the only downside is you have to feed multiple mice in one feeding to gain the same weight the snake would get just eating one rat. It tends to be more expensive that way compared o rats as well.

Yes it is more expensive to feed mice. Most bp's can be switched over to rats.

My male pin is a mouser. Its actually very annoying because he goes through 3-4 mice a week.

But you wave a rat in front of him and he will have nothing to do with it, then you wave a large mouse in front of him and its gone.

As of last weigh day he's 950 grams, and still either maintains his weight or adds a little every week.

It just gets expensive, especially when you feed f/t.

My Shiva is picky like that too. Well idk. Ive never thought my snakes head as being large enough to tackle a rat. I do 3f/t large mice a sitting. Does get pricy though. My local Burtons Total pet sells them for about $1.25 a pop. Not too bad imo compared to Petco/Smarts $12 for 3mice that look small...

My BPs are on rats, but sometimes i give them a mice treat once a month.
but i guess they can survive on either both.. just more mice per serving compared to rats. :P

The adult jumbo mice can be pretty big. I got an order of them from Layne Labs and most of them were around 50 grams.

I don't think it costs more to feed your ball python mice over rats. Going off of what I read people feed small rats to their adult males, and according to Layne Labs website a small rat weighs 70-95 grams and when bought in an order of 20 each rat costs $1.95. Now an order of 25 jumbo mice is $.85 per mouse and even if you feed two at a time its going to cost you $1.70. Maybe I've just gotten lucky on my orders of f/t mice and they're bigger than normal.

I feed mine jumbo mice also. There was just a very interesting thread on here about people possibly overfeeding they're snakes. I get mine from big cheese rodent factory. On average they're about 40 plus grams. I've seen what I believe to be healthy growth. My snakes look muscular, not over inflated. I weigh them regularly, and am consistently seeing their weights increase. I rarely offer more then one at a time. I feed them every 7 to 9 days. The thread was tittled, "let's discuss dietary requirements for ball pythons". I highly recommend everyone reading it. But then again, to each his own.

How much does your snake weigh?

The size of the head and neck are misleading. If the rodent is about the width of the thickest part of the snake, it'll fit down the mouth and neck.
