ball python Injury

I hope I'm posting in the right area. I need help. My ball python, whom I've have for almost 15 years now has some bites from a rat. I had a family emergency and needed to leave the house in a rush, I wasn't gone ling, and I had forgotten to remove the live rat I was feed g to my snake before I left. When I returned I saw that the rat had bitten my snake multiple times in the end of his body, close to the tail area. There are 4 wounds. I removed the rat immediately and cleaned my snake and covered the wounds in bacitracin. I just need some help and or support on what more I should be doing. I feel awful, I'm sick to my stomach about it. This snake has been a member of my family for almost 15 years. The wounds do not go into the muscle or bone, bit the layers of skin are gone and it's all red and raw. Please help.

Not seeing a picture but based on the description, clean the wounds with betadine solution and apply tripple anti-biotic ointment (without pain killer)

Also make sure that the bedding remains clean, during the healing period I would recommend to switch to paper towel so the wound remain clean from all debris.

Sounds very minor your snake will be fine.

I just got I to this site today, I'm not sure how to post pics. I cleaned and sanitized his cage and cleaned him with water and covered his wounds with neosporin without pain killer. He is moving around and seems to be doing ok, just praying he is going to be fine. I also lined his cage with paper towels.

Any positivity someone can tell me how to post pictures?

my retic was bitten on the belly by a rat a few years ago, the rat managed to bit her in defense when she striked.
a tip to ensure speedy recovery is to make sure that wound is always dry to avoid further infection. dampness and moisture (even from high humidity) promotes bacterial growth.

I went through a similar one when I inherited my snake and had no instructions.

The rat tore up the cloaca. Fortunately I was there and was able to quickly remove the rat and try out fresh kill for the first time.

I was fortunate that neosporin got us through it. I also let the humidity drop somewhat that first week as well.
