Lots of temperature frustration

So I got a temp gun and I'm hoping it's accurate but I'm getting all these different temps. Can someone please help me I'm getting very frustrated. I want a daytime temps at 91 and night time temps at 85. But it just won't work. I have it set at 98.5 and the "basking area" is only 86.5. And the temp gun is reading. 94.5 where it should be 98.5.

Stop trying to over complicate it.
First temps need to be the tubs surface under the paper.
Don't worry about what the thermostat says, adjust up until the tub is where you want it.
Forget about dropping the temp at night, its not needed.
FYI a couple of my racks are 92ish in the tubs and the thermostat is at 102/105 area.
Give it a couple hours to stabilize before you make adjustments.

Well I thought of that but the bigger tanks are reading 83 and the small ones are 89.

All the flex a watt is the same size correct?

If they are not IDENTICAL they will not be even.

Looks like you have the probe right on the heat tape. I cut a piece of the tub, usually a piece where the lid would snap shut and place the probe on it. This way the tub plastic is on the heat tape and the probe is recording the temp the plastic is getting. This should help stabilize the temps. You don't want to set thermostat to 102 degrees to get tubs to 90.

Thanks i never thought of that! So i would just set it to 91 and i will get like that? I ave an extra tub that is not in use should i put the probe in there? I know you arent supposed to because the snake can affect it but what if i didnt have a snake in it?

I would not put it in a tub. Set it up the way you have it just place the probe on a piece of tub plastic and then put it on the heat tape.
