    Absolutely new to all this!
Hey everyone! I'm Liz, and I just got my first ball, Maggie, last Friday. I've been wanting a snake since gods know when, and finally sprang on what I thought was a deal on Craigslist: $120 for the snake, tank with substrate, hide, water dish, climbing branch, and heat lamp. Since I got her I've changed her substrate, put a proper heat bulb in the lamp (his burned out the day I got her, that's why her light is white in the first pic), made a second hide from an old plastic tub, decorated her tank, fed her, and am now trying to convince my mother that an UTH is a good idea while waiting for my Herpstat to come in the mail. Despite not really interacting with her much, she's been nothing but sweet to me and seems curious about her surroundings when I inevitably go into her tank and change something. I'll probably be posting a thread later asking about my setup, but for now I say hello, and leave you with a few pics of Mags:

Welcome to the forum, Liz - you've come to the right place! People here are friendly and full of great advice. Check out the caresheets first for all of the basic info then the experts here can fill in any blanks that you have. Also have a look at the BP pics section and, the next thing you know, you'll be making plans for your next ball! Have fun and enjoy!

Thanks! I'm trying to stick to the care sheets as closely as possible. Want to be a good scaly mama and all~ ;D And I already know I want at least one more, sometime in the future when I have the space and can decide on what morph lol!

Thank you! Would it be okay to ask questions here in this thread, or should I start threads for any questions in the General/Husbandry subforums? (Since that's probably going to be where my questions stem from for a while :P)

    Thanks! :)

Alright, I'll start new threads. :) Should a question about UTHs and fire hazards go in General or Husbandry?

Isn't she though? <3 Got some more pics of her while she was out today, maybe I'll start a thread in the Pics section!

Hello and welcome! She is so cute and pretty :) although, the first thing I noticed is how tiny her water bowl is! Her bowl should be big enough for her to lay in if she decides she wants to soak. Other than that she looks great! Really happy :) good luck!

Why? Ball pythons only really soak when something is wrong. As long as the dish is filled it doesn't matter what size it is. None of my ball pythons have a dish big enough to soak in.

Oh maybe I'm wrong then, lol. That's just what everyone's told me to do. I'm just giving advice based off what breeders and hobbiests have told me! But yeah, I guess you're right. I still like to have big bowls so that when they soak I know something is wrong. Something that would've taken me much longer to notice if they hadn't been able to soak. So I guess it's personal preference!
