Feeders
I cannot find rats in my area. I did however find African soft furs.. My question is, if I feed my snakes ASFs until I can find rats, will they go back to rats or only want ASFs?

I don't have any experience with ASF's, so I cannot comment on that. However, there are a number of online distributors that will FedEx frozen rats to you, pretty quickly. I purchased from Big Cheese Rodents, and received a well packaged, still frozen, shipment of rats in a matter of a couple of days. I know some people here like to use Rodentpro.com, but I do not have experience with them. Maybe you could hold off on feeding for a couple of days so that you can place and order online, and once they arrive, feed your snake?

My supplier has both rats and ASF. Occasionally he will have a surplus of large ASF on sale for $1 each, both frozen and live. Guess what my BP's eat that week?
If they are solid feeders on rats then the occasional ASF meal won't cause any problems. I think the pickier BP's that start and stay on ASF usually don't do well switching back and forth.

Re: Feeders
If you have any issues switching back, its not because of the asf. I've fed asf to snakes for years and they have no problems taking the occasional frozen rat or mouse. Hatchlings to adults.

Re: Feeders
As far as " nutrition " goes.. What is better for them? Why do people prefer rats to mice? Are ASF better than rats? As far as beefing them up?

Re: Feeders
All the same pretty much. I mean you could argue the details but it's not like snakes are malnourished from eating any of these.
People like rats because it means they won't need to feed multiple prey items. Also rats are much less nasty to breed. Mice smell terrible. I bred asfs for years because they hardly smell and have huge litters. Made sense for me. I feed f/t rats now

Gram per gram it's pretty much the same there is no better than the other, the reason people prefer a prey over another is the convenience and ease, obviously most people prefer to feed a single prey versus multiple that it would take to feed an adult BP.
