live feeding issue.. stalking but not striking
Hey Everyone, This Is My First Time Ever Posting, On Only Slightly Confused Lol.
I Bought My 2 Year Old Normal Female A Month Ago. She's 2200 Grams, Just Finished A Shed And I Have Her Temps On Point. HerBreeder Said To Feed Her Live The First Time To Make Her Feel More At Home. I Have Two Mice That I'm Getting Attached To Because She Stalks And Eyes Them Up With Interest, But Never Makes A Move After An Hour So I Take Them Out Before I Go To Bed. Why Does She Stalk Them Like She's Interested? If She Wasn't Hungry Wouldn't She Ignore Them?
Thank You, I'm Tryin To Get The Hang Of Postin On My Phone. I Just Wonder If There's More I Can Do To Help Her Eat

Mice are WAY too small for a 2200 gram ball. I have a big girl who should be about 2400 grams (that was back around the beginning of November) that should be eating large/ XL rats. The prey item needs to be 10-20% of the weight of your snake.

Yeah I have f/t rats for her, I just got two live mice because her breeder told me she either eats two mice or one rat a week and I was apprehensive about live feeding a rat to her. I was under the impression that after the live feeding shed take f/t because he claims she takes both.

Not throughout their entire lifespan! Once they hit about the 500 gram mark that guideline starts to apply less and less as they grow.
My general rule is small rats from 500-1200 grams, mediums from 1200-3000 grams, and larges (f/t only) above 3000. I only have one big girl that I even offer larges to.

Really? Wow. Alright. Thank you Eric I did not know that it didn't apply to their entire lives. Glad you cleared that up for me as I was just about to order some rats online and I thought they seemed huge! Thank you!
