If he's not using his hides, where is he hanging out when he's not exploring? Can you describe the environment more? What size cage? (I'm assuming glass tank?) What type of heat sources are you using (lamps? CHE? UTH?). Pics would be great too...
He's either laying out in the open in a ball or on the side of the hot hide against the glass. Sorry at work right now so no pics. I have a uth that I keep at 90 with a herpstat, the cool side is always 79 to 80 and I have identical hides which are the log hides. I also use a 75 watt heat lamp and change it to infrared at night. I'm changing the water dish daily and spot cleaning regularly.
Re: BP still acting weird
If you have the half log hides, he might not feel particularly secure in them since they are wide open on both sides. You could try something that just has one entrance. If you prefer the look of the logs, you could try to block off one side with fake plants or something along those lines. The general idea is to help him feel less exposed.

Well on both logs I have one entrance against the glass with moss there. So there is just one entrance but he still won't go in them.

Is the glass that it's against still see-through? If so, it may not look/feel secure to him.
I've also known some that just don't care for those half-logs. You might consider getting a dark plastic bowl or small pot, cutting a small hole in it, and turning it upside down. Or if you like the naturalistic look - more of a cave dwelling than a half log.
One of our BPs really prefers this over a half log:

I have moss blocking the glass but I'm going to try a hide like that. thanks!
Re: BP still acting weird
Sounds like your BP is just adjusting to his new environment. I agree that you could try a more secure hide. I have the exo-terra hides and I also use these from reptile basics. My snakes use these the most.

Good looking out, now what's appropriate size hide. Since I've got him I've haven't weighed or measured him yet but I know he's 6 months. Would I get a small or medium?

I really like these reptile basic hides. My snake is always in one of them...although, when I see him, he is usually on the cool side. I often wish he would spend more time out and about so I could admire him.
