My DIY enclosure for my Bredli.

This is my 2nd DIY project. Here is the first,

This project will be more on the interior designed to be natural looking but light weight. Google lizard landscapes on how to add backgrounds to your enclosure. And as usual I am making a video of the build.

I managed to get a Bredli carpet python a few months ago,

Since she came home I knew I would need a decent size enclosure for her. I started looking around my community for a furniture piece that I could turn into an enclosure for her. I also have plans of doing foam background to be like a Bredli's natural habitat. I searched for awhile and everything I found that was close to what I wanted was either a 2 piece unit or way out of price range. I also wanted to have a display front and look like an antique piece of furniture.
I finally went into a shop and found 3 display pieces that I liked and would work.
This was the simplest. It would have needed to be repainted and lexan added to the doors.

I finally settle on this. It has a glass front, it's all one unit, and is the size I was roughly looking for.

I bought it almost a month ago now. I have been having to work overtime at work (72 hr shift) so I have not had time to work on it much. I gutted it when I first got it. Finally the other day I got a few hours to work on it. I am doubling the depth so I am adding to the back of it. I have made most of the internal frame and have the sides cut to fit. They are not attached yet because I was out of liquid nails. The sub floor is down in the back, I need to fill in the floor in the front, and I need to cut a hole in the right side for a 1x1 that will run from the top to the bottom on both sides.

I plan on installing the following:
LED lights for daytime lighting
LED light kit for night time viewing ( http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?t=210139)
Radiant heat panel
Herpstat to control RHP
natural looking background
Here is a pic of what I want the inside to resemble. For what I was able to find, this is a pic from the McDonnell ranges where the bredli is from.

I plan on have my kids helping a lot with the inside since they like to paint and make a mess. Making backgrounds are messy and will probably take up most of the time on this project.

This will be sweet can't wait to see when its done

Thanks, I finally had some time the other day to work on it. I got some more done before I has to stop. I had planned to then do more but the flu stopped by the house to say hi, to all 5 of us. So that took away more time to try and work on it. I don't have much left to finish expanding it so I can start on the inside. I hope to try and get that done soon so I can figure out how to and how I want the inside.

Any progress

I wish. I just got home from taking my wife to the Sarah McLaughlin concert in Charleston , SC. It was her Christmas present and was an awesome concert, got to meet her before the show and was 2nd row from the stage. Also after this weekend, I will probably be working 72 he shifts til my department gets some new hires and administrative can not tell us when that will be. It might be some time before I get to work on this some more.

I did how ever get a foam factory hot knife set in to help with the foam when I get to work on that part.

Wow! I'd never heard of these snakes until I looked it up just now. Beautiful pythons!

I found this pic awhile back. If I remember correctly, it is a Bredli enclosure in Alice Springs Australia at a zoo or museum there. It is sort of what I want to do.

I was off from work this past weekend and nothing much was happening so I got some time to do some more work. I got the floor finished and the back installed. The roof panel needs to be cut and installed so that is all that is left on expanding the enclosure. I also cut the section that divided the top from the bottom on the original display case.

So what's next? Well I need to see what I want to do to close in where the drawers were on the bottom. I am going to try and cut out some panels on the drawers and fix them in place. If that does not work out, then I will need to figure out a way to put some lexan there. I will do my best to go with the drawers.

Next will be to clean up, fix, hide, etc any screw heads, saw marks and rough edges. I will probably go ahead and run the lights. Then finally I figure I will paint/stain the outside and get that out of the way. That will leave me with having to buy a rhp and a herpstat and to do the foam rock display on the inside.
