Rack Substrate

Hey how is everyone,
what do you guys use in your rack systems for substrate?
Do you feed in your rack or do you have a separate feeding container?


I personally use paper towels, and feed in the rack.

Pros:
cost effective.
easily check excrement.
easily clean all excrement even absorbed liquids.

Cons:
harder to hold humidity
Doesn't look as good

paper towels and feed in rack

Paper towels and bring tub out put feeder in and wait Til they've constricted it then return to rack

I use aspen and feed in the rack. I find it holds humidity better than paper towel/newspaper, so that helps when they shed...

have you ever tried paper towels? is the humidity the only reason you use aspen? why do you choose to use it over paper towels?

Depends on the animal.

Newspaper for adults most of the year

Cypress Mulch for females once they had their OVY

Aspen for hatchlings.

I've tried Aspen, paper towels, butcher paper, newspaper. I now exclusively use paper towels. Newspaper and butcher paper just held no humidity. Aspen holds humidity, but I don't like to feed on it and the snakes just pushed it out of the way and layed on the plastic. Paper towels hold ok humidity, easy to clean and you can feed right in their cage.

I love paper towels. I use them in my racks and feed on them every week. I do keep a mix of Aspen and Coco husk for the winter time to help with humidity.

We use aspen. Easier for me to clean up poo and pee. And the humidity is better. Use to use paper towels. Don't really like that I have to go ever other day to spray water to keep the humidity up. Better with aspen. Don't want to disturb the breeders if I don't have to

Aspen for everyone except breeding tubs. Don't want to risk aspen on hemipenes. I remember when I started breeding a bunch of losers were trying to belittle me when I asked if this was an issue by asking me if I have zippers on my pants. I think everyone should have an opinion, but that wasn't necessary. Now that guys like justin k posted on youtube about it many use paper for breeding. Maybe the guys on that particular forum are used to breeding their wives on the dirt ridden matresses in their trailer parks. Oh, and I used paper towels during mite treatment and quarantine etc., also damp paper towel for hatchlings before first shed.

I recently tried corrugated wrap paper instead of newspaper in breeding tubs, and it seems more absorbent so I don't wake up in the morning to find the bigger snakes swimming in pee.
