Warm side assistance.

I have 3/4ths of Gemma's enclosure covered with two towels. I have a 100w ceramic heater on the 1/4th that's not covered. She's got a UTH, two hides on either side, & a bowl of water in the middle of the enclosure. I cannot, for the life of me, keep her warm side temperature in range. That 100w heater is a joke. Her temperature barely stays around 82 with the damn thing on 24/7. I've looked for a higher wattage, but I can't find one above 100. Her UTH is set at 90, & she's got about an inch of substrate under the hide where her UTH is (she doesn't really burrow, but I still check every day to make sure she hasn't reached the bottom). Please, someone give me SOMETHING. I've tried everything I could think of & everything I've read on here, but it's not working. I've almost successfully convinced myself I can get her to wear a body sweater if I can crochet one. HELP.

Is it a glass tank? I insulated the three sides with a roll of foam insulation. Then cut a piece of wood for the lid over the wire mesh. I cut two holes slightly bigger than the heat lamp. The other hole I can cover with a wet towel or better yet aluminum foil to hold humidity. The Tstat is set on about 95 to heat the glass on the bottom inside of the tank to 90. The Tstat probe is between the UTH and bottom of the tank on outside. You measure with a temp gun (best buy ever) under the substrate in case your snake burrows. The heat lamp controls the ambient temp. I have a digital thermometer/hydrometer with the probe on back wall mid tank, measuring ambient temp, which I keep around 80. I also keep their room temp at 78 with a space heater with digital thermostat. Try insulating and covering the screen with wood or foil and see if that helps.

On the other hand I have my babies in a self built rack in plastic tubs. Right now the tubs are 26 long, 18 wide, and 6" high. But I built the rack to hold the iris 70, which they will graduate to. Flexwatt heat tape set on Tstat set at 90, paper towels substrate for now, ambient stays at 80. No heat lamp, and humidity stays at 50-65. Easiest thing in the world!! I set the clear sided tanks sideways for better viewing. Problem solved!!

If you have a uth giving a hotspot of 90 the entire cage can have an ambient temp range of 77-84. If you want a bit more heat retained you can even use thick art paper to cover three sides. I did that and I picked up a few degrees in my ambient temps.

I have a 40gal glass tank in a room that is a constant 68F. I have a uth, 100w che, and a 60w bulb to keep my temps within range.

The only issue I see is the amount of substrate over the uth. You should only have 1/4inch. Having that thick a layer makes is almost impossible for the heat to reach the surface for the snake. It also usually causes the temps at the glass to be very high. Where is the tstat probe?

Where are you measuring the temperatures? What are you using to measure the temperatures with? If you're measuring the air temp then 82 is fine, if you're measuring the surface temp then it's too cool. BUT too cool is better then too hot.

So what exactly is the issue ?? If your ambient temp is 82, and your UTH gives you a hot spot of 90,
those are almost perfect temps.
