Re: New bp in blue questions
Instead of spraying the tank 8 times a day (which might actually bring down ambient temperature in the terrarium and possibly get your snake sick) you can buy some sphagnum moss. All you have to do is put damp moss under the hide. Then, your BP will have both warm temperature and good humidity for his/her shed.
Not sure about your setup, but how are you measuring your ambient temperature and humidity? Also, is your screen top covered? A lot of the humidity escapes if it's not covered.

Re: New bp in blue questions
I just finally gave up with the humidity in my Exo terra. I bought some sphagnum moss, dampened it and put it in her hot hide. She is in blue and hasn't left it! I also cut a piece of plywood with holes cut for lamps. Then changed her substrate to Reptibark! Viola! Maintaining 60% humidity in rest of tank and 75% in hide! Love that moss! No more spraying. I also have put it into my babies hides in their tubs to give them a tighter fit. I haven't had yo dampen it yet because the tubs keep humidity at 60-70% with paper towels. This forum is so wonderful. I never would have figured this stuff out without all the knowledgable people on here willing to help noobs. [emoji2][emoji216]

Re: New bp in blue questions
Ok great to hear about the moss, ill try get my hands on some. I use a digital termometer/hygrometer to check my humidity levels. Spraying doesnt lower my ambient temps because I have a heat lamp for my cold side cuz im in the basement and need to warm my cold side a bit but im sure that why its not helping my humidity, but thats why I'm concerned about spraying because I dont want her to get an RI. I still want to use the paper towels as a substrate but ill try the moss during blue for sure.
How often should I be changing out the paper towel substrate normally though??? I dont want to go in there to bug her too often while she is settleing in.
Im still nervous to handle her, lol.
My top is covered with tin foil except for the spot where my lights are (reg light bulb-during day, red on at night for heat)
Even though id be using the moss during blue though, id still be having isdues with my humidity...if I didn't spray it would be sitting at like 30-40% is that really safe permenently when not in shed? I will be trying to get a fogger type situation going evdntually.
