wood pellets for hognose substrate

Hi everyone.

Iam just new to hognose and got a question about substrate.

At first i use newspaper for my hog bedding then change to aspen shaving but aspen are expensive and hard to find in my place plus i saw them swallow it with their pray and its worry me, give me uneasy felling everytime i feed them

Recenly i found this sugarcane (bagasse) wood pellet for bio fuel

Its plenty and available ready in my place.

My question is: is this harmfull for hognose? Is anyone ever use any product from sugar cane?.

Iam planning to change to that kind of bedding, besides its has economical value, thats pellet its quite solid and big enough not to get stick to prey item and get swallow

I have never used that. I like to give my hoggy substrate that can be rooted around in and borrowed through. I find Eco Earth works great and now use a mixture of it with some cypress and Repti Bark. Its looks good and allows my hoggy to make tunnels and dig all around.

Hoggies like to hide in the substrate so I don't think they would like pellet bedding much at all. I use them for bedding for feeder rodents and litter for my ferrets sometimes though. Ingesting a little bedding is unlikely to be an issue but if you are concerned you could put down a piece of paper towel, feed in another cage, feed in a container in the cage and make sure your feeders are fully dry (assuming f/t?) before offering.

I would not use it. Pellet stove pellets contain a glue binder to hold everything together, and there's small enough pieces that could be injested.
