So about a week ago or 5-6 days ago, I checked up on my Ball python like i do every morning and I noticed he was REALLY cloudy colored (especially his eyes) which we all know means he is about to shed. So far the past week I have bumped up humidity and waited. Yesterday I didn't check on him due to other matters but I figured he could wait until today. When I got home from work today, I lifted up his hide and there he was, ALL BRIGHT AND SHINY. he had shed but……..(this is the spooky part) THERE WAS NO SKIN. oooooooOOOOOOoooooo. There are many possibilities here:

1. My mom came home and took it out herself because she thought it was cool, and kept it for herself.

(not likely because I don't think she was home anytime before I got home)

2. The snake ate the skin? I don't think snakes do this but we had a lizard once that did this.

3. The snake didn't shed. but then why was he cloudy colored?

4. Potato men of Venus took it to fuel their death ray.
(I am leaning most on this one)

As you all can see I'm not too worried and am turning this into something funny, but I am still curious as to what actually happened. Have any of you had a snake that changed its mind and decided to shed later?

Maybe he hasn't shed yet? After they go grey they go back to looking pretty normal right before the skin actually starts coming off. The shed cycle is pretty long it's definitely a possibility that he's not done yet

Was there any poop? Mine usually poop after they shed.

If there's no skin and no poop, I would say he hasn't shed yet he's just cleared up from the blue stage. They usually shed 36 to 48 hours after clearing up from being blue.

I'll bet he hasn't shed yet. Sometimes the final clear phase of the shed process mimics the new skin.

I would agree. My snakes are like the kids....take their skin/clothes off and leave it balled up in the floor.

I am in agreement. He likely hasn't shed yet, give it a day or two.

The shedding process goes from nothing to grey/clouded eyes, then clears up. and then finally the shed.

Yup, he hadn't shed yet. I found the skin balled up in his hide. along with a huge after-shed poop.

Rats! I was so hoping for #4......
