2 thermometers and 2 different readings... what do I do now?
In my hot hide I have 2 thermometers. One is a plastic zoo med brand thermometer and the other is a thermostat probe that I lay on top of the reptibark to control the heat pad underneath the hot hide. The plastic temp says 84 and the probe says 92. Which one is right? I want to make sure the temps stay perfect for my little guy.

Are the probes in the exact same spot? What Tstat are you using, are you sure that the TStat isn't reading out your set temp? On a side note for future reference this is why temp guns are so handy.

I'm using a hydrofarm thermostat set for 94 degrees. The probes are within an inch of each other. Can you recommend any temp guns are that reasonably priced?

The tstat probe does not go inside the cage. It needs to be outside the cage between the uth and the bottom of the cage.

Having it inside the tank is very dangerous as if it is moved it will ramp up the uth and create a unsafe hotspot for your snake.

    Remove it asap.

Depending on the brand of tstat you have I would trust it first. What brand is it?

I am removing it right now. It's a hydrofarm thermostat. I am saving up for a better one.

I haven't used my hydrofarm in a while so I don't remember if it defaults to displaying the actual temp or the set temp. That being said you can find temp guns from 16 dollars up to as much as you want to pay. Most of them are pretty decent, especially for what we use them for.

You could search around the forum. Somebody had several of those units and none of them agreed with each other on the temp. They just are not very reliable.

I bought a temp gun from ebay. It should be here in a couple days. Thanks for your help everyone.
