Cold medicine and feeding day do not mix, lol.

So it's Friday, and that means Shesha gets fed tonight. I woke up with a terrible cold, actually left work three hours early because I just could hardly function. So I finally got the energy to prepare a rat for the little one. It is a pretty familiar process now so should have been smooth sailing. I have been scenting with tuna juice and using hot water to bump head temps just before feeding. I made the minor mistake of dipping the head in the tuna juice before the hot water, and realized right after doing it that it would wash the scent off using the water now. So being the groggy sick individual that I am at the moment, I dipped the head in the hot water, pulled it out, and got the bright idea that maybe it would still smell like tuna (it is a pretty strong smell after all). So without even thinking I put the darn rat right to my nose and took a big whiff. Dear god, I am very relieved that I am congested. Not fun, definitely will think twice next time lol. So that is how my day has been going.

Wait until you forget you have put them out to defrost and either don't notice till almost vomming the next day or discover you are feeding rat-grenades that explode when struck.

Some days when they just poop it is like a breath of fresh air. :rofl:

Rofl I came close to having this happen on his second attempted feeding after bringing him home. I was still trying the separate feeding box (didn't work and he eats in his tank now) so I had given up for the night and set the box, with the rat still in it, on the floor by the tank. I put Shesha back and went to put away the tongs and such, and came back about 20 minutes later to clean up the tank area. I looked down and the box was right where I left, the rat was nowhere to be found. It dawned on me at this point that I have cats. Fortunately the guest that was over that night walked down the hall to see what I was doing frantically digging under the bed and I had to admit that there was a missing rat somewhere in the house. She mentioned that she thought there was something on the carpet in the living room that looked odd and sure enough there it was. I lucked out but for a second there I was just having visions of rotting rat under the bed, in the blankets, and a whole slew of other distasteful places. *Shudder* We learn by experience I guess, I never leave rats unattended anymore.
