Still fighting temp and humidity!

Ok so I have done the whole tin foil over the top and Coca soft as substrate. Got the installation around back and sides. Got a dimmer for the UTH and I still can't get the temp and humidity up and to stay steady. Please help! Pics are of insulation I used on back and sides and tank now. The good thing is it makes the tank look/feel smaller. I hope! I figured out a issue. My UTH is not working. I guess I will have to use my spare small one till I can afford a new one. [emoji20]

The uth does not help air temp if that's what is low.

A good tip for humidity is place moist moss in the hides. They will create humid hides while the rest of the tank has low humidity. However since the humidity in the hides is high and your snake stays in its hides most of the time it benefits greatly from the moss.

I don't think that would hold up that well. I use the Zoo Med moss and really like it.

Moss is also good for making a large hide feel smaller and more secure when your snake is between sizes.

It's so hard to keep temp/humidity levels right in those large tanks. I'd recommend a UTH for the hot spot and a heat lamp or CHE to help with ambient temps. I picked up a fogger when I first stated out that helped with humidity but I found out using moss soaked in warm water was easier for up keep. I live at 7000 ft and the air can be very dry here so it took a lot of trial and error to get it right. I would also recommend getting a laser temp gun. Hope this helps.

Great help! This weekend I start a new project to build a enclosure. No more huge tank. I like the looks of the 55 but the enclosure will be better to stabilize temp and humidity. When I got the 55 I didn't know that it was going to be too big and stress my BP out and be uncomfortable for him. My thought is, "happy snake= happy owner!

Not sure what you did but in my 20x12x12 tank I had problems keeping temp steady with my 50w Che and the uth then I got a bigger fixture and covered the top with tin foil and 150w bulb and it was just makin it way to warm so I got 100w on dimmer using Eco earth and cypress mulch mixed and hot spot is uth at 92-93 with the Che centered keeping it at 79-83 degrees with a substraight temp of 85 and humidity is around 70% with fresh change on it
