Nobody told me snakes made noises! What was my little guy doing?
So, Im going to start by stating that I know snakes can't cough. With that said, my little guy made some crazy noises Monday night. While I was laying in bed I heard what sounded like a weird cough. Three distinct times all within the same 30 seconds or so. I looked into Ludo's tank to see him with his mouth wide open and his head angled upwards. He then closed his mouth and went on his merry little way climbing and exploring like he normally does.

At first I was afraid that he was trying to vomit. Thankfully, he wasn't. He had eaten 6 days before then and had a normal BM on Friday night. I don't know if you will need all of this info to help me but I've noticed that most topics state these details so here they are:

    • temp under hide stays 90*
    • Ambient temp stays around 72-75* (he hasnt graduated from his 10 gallon tank yet and on a preivous topic I had posted here, several responses said that he should be fine in these temps until he graduates to a larger tank that is easier to heat without overheating. However, if any one has an idea of how to bring up his ambient temps without baking him, by all means please share!)
    • humidity stays pretty consistent at 60%
    • he also ate like normal yesterday and has seemed totally fine ever since he expelled his demons (or whatever he was doing) Monday night.

I did notice a very small BM and some urine after he did whatever it was that he was doing. Other than that, things have been pretty normal.

I'm thinking snake farts as well. I hadn't heard it myself until a couple months ago I was awakened to the most ungodly noise coming from the tubs..... it was quite the bowel movement lol

Preciousess was farting away last night after her meal. It was the first time my husband had been awake when she did it, and he was amazed. Sounds like a sub machine gun lol

you know, I did actually smell some funk in the air right after it happened very briefly. I sleep with 3 dogs though so I just assumed one of them was the culprit.

It indeed does sound like a case of ball python farts. The first time I ever heard it I was laying in my bed asleep and almost rolled out of bed! It is quite remarkable actually that such a creature as a snake can produce such loud gas. Needless to say this is all occurred around 12 midnight and I was up scrubbing a very stinky BM infused tub.

hahaha, they were blaming it on the dogs... That's funny, I have yet to hear them with gas.
