Baby Corn Snake Staying Still? Help!

Okay so heres the story. I got my 2-3 month old corn snake on Monday (todays Tuesday) and when I opened his box he was so excited he came right out. So I handled him for 5 min. and then put him in his new cage. Although when I put him in he went to one certain place (near the water witch is on the cooler side). I thought he would be more happier the next day. He is still just laying there, but in a different place this time. So I fed him today and he ate them no problem. While he was digesting them he was moving around a bit. But once they reached his stomach he went to one place and just stayed there :( I'm worried about her, is this normal for young/juvinile new cornsnakes? Also her eyes are red, and on the front part of both eyes are little black moon looking parts? Are those mites or is she beginning to shed?:snake:

How old are you? Serious question. I figure the snake is staying still because it is digesting its meal. Is it sitting on or under it's heat source? Also snakes stay still alot, so don't worry about that in the future. Mites are parasitic arthropods they move around...are they moving?

16, and its staying in between the middle of the hot area and the cold, more to the cold area though. And no there not really moving around, also its not around its eyes, witch mites mostly aim at, its the actual pupil, and its on both eyes. Also thanks for replying! Nice to know someone actually cares about my problems xD

If you want to see your corn in a more active state I suggest night viewing under a red light.

Your snake has just eaten something that is probably about 20% of its body weight. This is ENORMOUS. It's probably going to take several days to digest and the snake is not going to want to move around. Plus, corns tend to be most active at night and in the early morning.

What are the temperatures on the warm side? What are you using to heat it? What style of thermometer are you using to measure the temperature? Do you have anything to regulate the source of heat (make it hotter or cooler)?

The black thing in the eye is completely normal.

Corn snakes dont need much heat they like it around 75 so if you live in california they will do just fine. And like john1982 said night viewing is when he will be moving around prolly a little after dark. Mine gets active around 7 or 8 pm.

I have actually been keeping snakes for 25 years. I LOVE to talk snakes. I remember the old days of KS.com when the forums were so busy they were like chatrooms. I got my first garter snake at 11 years old...a Florida Blue, I kept it in a large fish bowl with a glass pane over the top of it and used plastic turf...oh boy.

The first thing to remember about keeping snakes is it is easy. You need to provide the proper temperature, not multiple temps...just the hot end needs to be the correct temp and the enclosure will gradient out. After that the animal needs a clean, secure place to live and food and water...simple.

Feed your hatchling a single correct sized meal every 5 to 7 days and don't stress out, you'll stress the snake out. Put the food item in there at leave it alone check on it in half an hour at the soonest.

Right now I am mainly keeping Ball Pythons and GTPs. I keep Ball Pythons because I like morphs and breeding for a certain mutation. Corn Snakes are totally amazing. I had a 5 foot plus female wild type back when I was like 14 it was probably in the top 5 snakes I ever owned. Enjoy your snake and don't worry too much, they are tough as nails as long as you can meet the basic requirements

Exactly why I was asking. I live in Fl. my house stayes about 75 all year so we don't use uth's for our corns.

Me too, amongst other reptiles... I moved more to bp's for the same reasons. My wife likes them cause they don't move around as much as the corns do. lol
