    Crazy thought.. Maybe...
Soo... I just got what I believe to be a juvenile albino BP. From what I was told, she has always been in a tub/rack system. When I brought her home I put her in a glass tank with a heat lamp on the screen. It's been a couple weeks since I got her and she hasn't eaten for me yet. I understand that's a huge change for her and she probably won't eat for quite some time.

For some reason, she seems to always be staring at the heat lamp... I noticed that if I move it, she fallows. I might be crazy for thinking this and forgive me for asking but... Could it be possible that being in a tub all her life, she's seeing this heat lamp as a prey or trouble of some sort? I know they detect heat and she's never had a heat lamp hanging over top of her, so could it be that she's constantly worried about that big mysterious source of heat floating over her?

I'm really not certain to be fair but I've got a female Albino Royal who was doing well until I moved her from her small viv into a larger plusher viv ... and she went off her food for 8 months ... then I needed her larger viv for an incoming Boa and I put her in old viv and she ate the very next day and the day after that as well !

I also read that a Royal Python holds the record for 'fasting' which is over 21 months approx !!

I turned off the heat lamp and put a rat in there and she went for it. I guess I'm going to get a UTH tomorrow.

And a thermostat to regulate it so she doesn't get a burned belly.

You may want to try to take her/him out of the tank and put him/her on a tub and offer food in a dark place that really works for me
and after she or he ate try to move him or her to its tank with caution cus if you move her too much she can throw up the prey

    hope it helps you

    good luck

Or... leave her in her own tank to feed and avoid any handling/stress concerns all together, which is what the OP is likely going to do (and what many others do as well). :)

Get the UTH set up using a thermostat to safely control it. How are you measuring temps/humidity in the tank? What type of top do you have...screen, glass, Plexiglas, etc?

Once you get things set up correctly you can safely feed in the tank. There should be no need to use a separate container for feeding. Not only are you risking a regurgitation as mentioned earlier, you could be risking a bite when moving back to the tank. All of this movement can certainly stress the snake out. The feeding container "requirement" is a myth spread by pet stores to sell extra equipment to unknowing new reptile owners.

Good luck with your new BP!
