I bought this Benetech temp gun. $15 and free shipping...so it took around 3 weeks to arrive. Pretty decent, only real drawback is that it beeps after every use and there's no way to turn the sound off.
Tested it on ice and boiling water and it's accurate enough when held within 4-6" of the object.

I have a little nat geo one that they carry at the pet stores. Was about 25 dollars, but works well enough and I didn't have to wait for it to be delivered

I did way WAY to much research on this topic purchase. I landed on the Etekcity from the link below. The dual laser is awesome because the beams converge at the optimal distance. You can hold the trigger and it takes a continuous reading, which is great cause I just keep it pressed and move it around the whole tub to see all the different temps. Then once I let go of the trigger it shows the last reading and the max reading (this comes in real handy for taking readings in tubs up high where I can't see the screen). It has a 12:1 spot ratio. All this for $30 delivered. Very accurate. Hope this helps

Ryobi .... home depot.... $30...... works like a champ gives temp. where red dot hits...then I use temp and hygrometers also in the vivariums...its always good to have other options of checking temps, try not to rely total on one type thermometer....
