    Thermostat settings
I just moved all my pythons over to a thermostat and rack system last week. I just now got my infrared temp. gun and have some questions. I have a vivarium 300 x2 that I have set to 92 degrees. I checked the heat tape and its dead on at 92.4 which is good. My question is; when I pull the tub out and shoot the gun at it the temps read in the 76ish range. Do I need to bump the thermostat up or no? My snakes have eaten and are shedding great in the racks. They also move from the heat to the cool side and back, so I know there getting warm. There on a paper towel substrate if that makes any difference.

Whats temps are you guys thermostats set to?

    Thanks

Yes, the thermostat will need to be adjusted to get the correct temp inside the enclosure. Depending on my thermostat and rack, mine are set anywhere from 96-ish to 101. My snake room doesn't change temps, so there's no fluctuations. When I lived in the northeast and lived in a really drafty apartment, in the winter I had mine set as high as 108. It'll take some trial and error, I usually adjust by .5-1 degree at a time.

Edit: Be sure to take the temp under the paper towels though, since 90% of the time your snake will move it all aside and lay directly on the tub anyways.

in my rack I usually have a couple degree difference. tstat set to 94/95 with hotspot inside tub at about 90/91 but the difference you are seeing is crazy. I cant think of any reason you would be losing that much heat between tape and inside of tub. I guess my recommendation would be trying a different thermometer to see if that changes anything and make sure your shooting the bare bottom of the tub idk if there might have been a small space between paper towel and tub

I took the temp on the bare tub and it was at 81; so yeah a lot closer then 76 lol We keep our house pretty cool so it might have to increase quite a bit.
