    Trouble with Ambient Air Temps
I have a 40 gallon breeder aquarium with a mesh lid. On the right hand side, I have an 11x11 UTH. The glass temp is 95 and on top of substrate is 92. On the cool side, the ambient air temp is only 75. I have a 100 Watt CHE in the middle of the lid. The lid is covered with towels other than right where the CHE is. Any suggestions on raising the ambient air temp?

75 is fine for an ambient temp on the cool side.

I'd follow this thread and foil wrap the screen of your tank. Even though 75 is fine foil wrapping will help with humidity and ambient temps as well since it won't hurt if they are a little higher. When I had tanks this worked wonders. I never even had to mist anymore. Hope this is helpful [emoji4]

As mentioned, 75 is fine for ambient temps. I wouldn't worry too much - and possibly consider taking off the CHE. If you completely cover the top of the tank, and put a hide over the heat pad, that should provide a decent range of temps for your snake.

Try also getting a solid side fixture for the CHE, if you feel you should keep it due to low ambient temps in the house etc. You are losing a lot of heat from that into the air around the 'bulb' because of the cage style fixture you are using.

Humidity is actually looking great at 60. It's held for 24 hours and I haven't misted at all. We have an earth contact house, so it's constantly about 55% in the house. I just dampened the moss a bit in the hides and behind the water dish and it's held humidity.

The CHE box said it could only be safely used with that cage because of backheat. Any suggestions on safe cage styles? Without the CHE, ambient temps were 68, so I can't lose it.

A deep dome fixture, like what is recommend for use with mercury vapor bulbs, is perfectly safe to use with ceramic heat emitters, and will direct the heat down into the cage instead of into the air around it. :)
