First BP, new cage set up.
I have a 40g glass aquarium with bark bedding and two hides, one on hot side and one on cold side. I am new to having a ball python and have a few questions. Is a under the tank heater enough? Temp's only in the 80's on warm side. Can I wrap three sides of the Tank in aluminum foil to help retan heat or will that freak the snake out? I am thinking I need to add a CHE for more heat. The accurite thermometers at walmart how and where would one mount those? I just have cheap plastic stick ons for now.

Is the ambient air temp 80? if so then a UTH will be just fine. you should need to wrap the sides of the tank unless its freezing where the enclosure is. A CHE is going to suck the humidity out of the tank so just be aware of that.

Thick paper, foam, cardboard are all good things to insulate the tank with.

Is the uth on a tstat? If not unplug it and get one.

Most people place the Accurite unit on the back wall on the cool side to give the cool side ambient temp. They then place the wired probe under the substrate and hot glue it over the uth to track the hotspot.
