    Describe what identifies a morph
I have to admit, I've never really been in to Ball Pythons, I'm more of a Burms/Retics/Carpets/Boas fan. I do like some of the Ball Python morphs though, but some of the morphs really just look like normals...with a hefty price tag. I can't figure out what is different about some of the morphs, and how to identify them. A pastel looks like a normal to me, a firefly (at least pics I've seen) looks like a normal to me. If someone who knows, and wants to, would like to write a physical description, not morph A, crossed with morph B, makes morph C, but a physical trait that makes each morph identifiable, I would be SUPER grateful, and interested in learning this!

Look for the forum heading "BP.nets guide to ball python morphs" on this site. There are written descriptions and pictures on a lot of the more popular morphs including those you listed.

So you want that for each and every morph? There are over 3000 different mutations out there.

As for the best way to identify a subtle morph (Firefly is not one of them), it's all about hands on experience the more you will deal with subtle morphs the better your eye will be trained, a description can help but it's not everything.

I'm with Deborah on this one. Pastel and Firefly aren't even close to being subtle. If you think these look like normals, I'm not sure how to help.

If you cant tell the difference between a firefly and a normal i dont think any write up is going to di you any good

Thanks for the thread info, it is what I was looking for. I can see the difference in patterns in some of the morphs I was looking for; some are obvious, and some are subtle. The pastels in the thread don't look like normals to me, maybe I just didn't see good enough pics in the past that showed a good angle. 23 years ago, when I got my first Ball Python, there was a big difference in color in normals, in fact, most of what were sold in stores were wild caught back then, so I guess color alone doesn't always differentiate, but I can see some of the patterns, like the bands, that are definitely not normals either.

    Thanks for the info.

You can also use this site. They don't have written descriptions for most like you want but just looking at all the different pictures of each morph help you get familiar with the traits that each morph has.

Once you hit the 4 5 6 gene snakes all you have is tons of genes fighting it out and they lose alot of their visual personality

If a firefly (click here) looks normal to you, you are going to be disappointed with almost any morph.

As for actually identifying them, comparing pictures and seeing things in real life is how I have always got by, I actually don't see typed words helping a whole lot.
