Oh the irony!! A garter snake in my house!!

I just got a baby ball python whom I adore but tonight I was startled by my mother screaming that "my" snake had gotten out. Nope it's a random garter snake and idk what to do!?? It's still somewhere in here but we can't find it :o

Sounds like fun! I once had a squirrel loose in my house for 3 days. Remember the movie "Christmas Vacation"? very similar, only it was summer. The dog chased it around for a bit and it got away, but after a few days and a borrowed live trap we got it :D

A squirrel?? Now how'd that get in haha. Squirrels are cute but I'd really be afraid of getting bit by one and I've heard they can be quite feisty.

Really ironic the way I panicked about this snake though since I originally wanted a garter as my first snake haha! Just so unexpected to see one slide across the living room floor and my mom kept yelling that it was my BP on the floor so I was really confused because I'd just seen him. She's like "you're the snake lady GET IT". Still don't know where it slithered off to [emoji216] Those garters are fast!

It will probably find a way out on its own.
We have a really big black ratsnake living in our old chicken shed and he sometimes gets in the garage. Free mouse and rat control, I mostly worry about it ending up in the car.I also worry we will mow over it, unfortunately we accidentally killed a nice big garter last year in our yard by mowing it over.

My best guess is the squirrel came in down the chimney. A couple hours before the initial sighting in our living room, I heard strange noises coming from inside the chimney, and figured maybe it was birds that somehow got in. Anyway, went on the roof to inspect after we caught the little guy and found that one of the screens used to prevent such an incident had fallen off which allowed easy access, lol.
