Size meal for an adult male?
Ive been worried about my male getting enough to eat. He was born mid 2012 but was a rescue and when I got him at a year old he was only a ft long and super skinny. I feed him small rats now, anywhere from once a week to once every two weeks. But lately he seems to be more hungry.I tried two small rats but he wouldnt take the second. Im thinking he is a bit under three feet and seems girthy to me but this is my only ball python(for now:P)
The small rats are from rodentpro and pretty small.
I bought mediums for my boa and they are huge(large size).

I will be having to make another order soon so wanted to figure out the sizes I would need in the next 6 mnths.
I will post some pics here later.

Can you post a pic of the snake next to both sizes of feeders?

An adult male should be okay with just a small rat every 7 to 10 days, they don't need a ton of food. However, when I think small rat, I'm thinking a 4 to 6 week old rat that's just big enough to be separated from the momma rat. That may not be how rodent pro packages their smalls.

here he is with his dinner today. I dont know seems too small to me but maybe if I just fed him every 7 days instead of less often it would balance out. I dont have any mediums left but they were huge compared to the smalls which I have about 30 left so hoping its fine. Should mention these "small" rats are very skinny when thawed out.

That looks like a pretty small meal. How much does he weigh? I just transferred my girl to one medium rat every 7 days. She weighs around 868 grams.

We have three boys that are all in the 1600 to 1800 gram size range. They get a rat small once a week as long as they are on feed. They are all in great shape with good tone.

If the feeder prey item is between 65 and 80 grams, and they are eating once a week, that should be suffiect to keep them happy and healthy. Remember the are opportunistic feeders so they will always be watching out for a meal. It doesn't mean the need one. Hope that helps.

That feeder is definitely small for the snake, but if you are feeding every week, not really much of an issue. You could up the size to a medium and just feed less often - the snake won't mind.

I guess I could weigh him(the bp). I have a nice scale that used to be really accurate until the dog went charging through the kitchen and got tripped up in the cord and sent it flying:rolleyes:
He also did that to my sewing machine, think either me or him would learn but guess not.

Since ate I will wait a couple days and get a weight on him and the rats.
