How many of you guys / gals out there only started breeding rats to feed your snakes but now find your rats to be taking up most of your time and paying for your snakes instead of vise versa. It seems to be easier to sell feeders anymore than to sell snakes:mad:

Hey, if you're able to sell enough feeders to support your snake hobby, that's great. I don't breed rats yet (have some as "pets") and I'm on the fence about it.

Sorry that you're having a hard time moving your snakes. I think some areas just don't have the market to support breeding reptiles (mine sure doesn't), while others have a huge market.

Man I wish I would have known you had surplus I would have looked you up while I was in San Antonio a few weeks ago.

To the op I started breeding rats because of the cost and how far I had to drive. Now I am focusing on my rats and rabbits and my snakes are house pets. I do plan on breeding my snakes later, but I enjoy the rats and rabbits the same. Also it gives me an opportunity to build a GOOD name for myself in the reptile community before I start to sell snakes.

most of my herping time is spent taking care of the feeder rodents....but i limit my production according to feeding needs so there is no surplus.
maybe i should maximize rat breeding to earn snake money...hmmmm:)
