Power-outage and UTH?

So today it's been thunder storming extremely hard and warnings have been put up for my area. Usually when this happens the power almost always goes out at some point and won't come on for several hours to a whole day. My main concern is that if this happens my ball python and skink won't have their UTH/heat lamps working any more. Has anyone encountered this problem before and if so what do you do to still keep them warm? Currently they would probably be fine since it's summer, but I'm also concerned about if this happens during the winter since it's happened in the past before I owned them.

There's this nifty little device called a generator... and if you have racks full of critters that need heat to survive, and feeders in the freezer (never mind your own food), and an incubator, and you live in an area known for power outages during severe thunderstorms, hurricanes, blizzards, etc. then you should really consider getting one.

You don't need a big expensive whole-house unit designed to run your A/C, etc. A portable unit capable of keeping the critters and eggs warm, and the perishables cold, will run about $500.

Summer time it's not likely to be an issue as long as you don't have something like a Brazilian Rainbow Boa that must be kept under 90*F. In your shoes I would try to get one before winter.

And yes, before anyone asks, I do have one and when we had a four day outage with 100+*F high temps a few years back it more than paid for itself just in food saved.

During the winter I have two things

Generator in case it is a long outage and if my incubator has eggs in it.

Or a buddy heater to keep the room warm for shorter outages or if I don't have to worry about having eggs in the incubator. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mr.-Heater...Heater/5712813, I hook a large propane tank instead of the small ones (it burns clean and is completely safe)
