First ball python setup

Hello, I've been looking around for a tub setup and I was wondering if you guys could give me your feeedback. I would like to make my first as smooth as possible but will also be good for the python.

Sterilite box:

As far as thermostat, I'm not sure which one to get. I'll only get one python for now until I get more comfortable.

I understand that you get what you pay for but do I really have to buy a hersptat or any other thermostat costing $100+ just for one snake?

Hi and welcome. I'll make some suggestions based off of what you listed.

Sterlite box: This ones lid is a bit more rigid plus it has latches. (WalMart should have them)

Sterlite 1755

Gauge: The one you listed is usual very inaccurate

Acurite

Water conditioner (No need for it)

Paper would be better over the carpet. With the carpet you won't easily see when it's wet so it can get moldy

Thermostat:

Hydrofarm

Also keep in mind with the tub set up you will need a way to keep the cool side temperatures up a bit also.

How do I maintain the cool side temperature? Also which sizes should I get from hatchling to adult?

I personally have the whole room heated I saw someone mention in a thread with a similar set up to what you are planning that you can use a heat lamp above the tub but I would assume it would need to be low wattage and/or maybe regulated? I have used 15qt. for babies in the 60g range. Males are all staying in 32's and juvie females. For adult females (1000g+ if good feeders or 1200 if they aren't) I change brands and get something similar to the 60 qt.

Sterlite 28s are nice. I use binder clips to hold the lids down. Hydrofarm stat will work fine for your needs. Accurite thermometer for the win. Drill some ventilation in the tub. Rbi hide boxes rock. No, water conditioner is completely unnecessary. I wouldnt use carpet personally. Too hard to clean/disinfect, so the risk of bacterial growth is very high. Paper towel, newspaper, carefresh, and aspen are all great options.

As far as heating the cool side, that is completely dependant on the season, climate, and how you keep your house.

okay I will use paper towel as substrate. How many holes should I solder? My room is naturally satan's lounge because of the sun but that's just during summer. Winter might be a little colder but it's still warm.

Unless you're starting with hatchlings the small hide boxes are pretty small, I suggest Medium or Large depending on how old the animal is that you're getting.

Yes I will start with a hatchling but can I move up to medium right away?
