How to Avoid a "Whose Your Daddy" Clutch?
So my situation is this, I took a Super Pastel Clown to several females this last year, the last pairing was 2 months ago. Since then I believe I've gotten two females to their pre-lay sheds. There are still three others he bred but its getting pretty late for them to ovulate. Assuming they do not ovulate, I would like to pair them in Nov-Dec to a different male, a Pastel Homozygous recessive. Is there any way to 100% know that the babies from that pairing arent from my Super Pastel Clown? As i understand it, the females could retain sperm from my Super Pastel Clown and either use that or end up split clutching. I don't want to be on the line in a few years with a customer who received a het clown instead of a het ******.
Re: How to Avoid a "Whose Your Daddy" Clutch?
Ive actually had a female hold sperm for two years.
Year 1 -
Pastel female bred to spotnose and mojaves = clutch of pastels, mojaves and normals
***spotnose male was sold at the end of this season and I did not have any other spotnose genes at the time
Year 2
Pastel female is bred to a pewter = super pastels, cinnamon, pewters and a sterling
Year 3
Pastel female is bred to a pewter and pastel butter = pewter, pastels, super pastels and a SPOTNOSE (ugh)
That has only happened to me once, but I have to admit Im a bit paranoid with. I only keep visual females when working with recessive genes to avoid issues like this. I know thats not reasonable for everyone, but visual females or virgins are the only way to be 1000000% sure.

The killer clown lost some weight during the season and I took him off two months ago. He is taking small meals now for 3 weeks in a row but nothing large. I think I need to give him the rest of the fall off as of his weight right now. The two females that I believe he got to prelay just went into it today. So their ovies were recent as well.

Once they ovy do they use all the retained sperm? The two power house females are the ones that I believe are good to go this year and have hit prelay shed. Assuming I can get their weights up would it be a guarantee then?

With you "presenting" your situation, knowing about sperm retention, why would you even ask?
