Pair now or wait for November

Have a female that has just hit breedable size and is over 2 yrs old. Is there any benefit in pairing now? Will a female go regardless of the season or should I just wait for the regular timeline and start around November/December? Thanks in advance for any responses?

I don't have a "regular timeline" I breed year round ;)

You can try now and might see some locks but its up to the female if she wants to take now or wait untill she wants. On that note i just had a girl lay a month ago so she bred a little bit out of season

I am working on getting a year round rotation going.

You said she "just" hit breeding weight?

What weight is that? Most people won't pair unless the female is 1,500+ grams.

Personally I would wait until November/December, that's another what 4-5 months of her eating and putting on even more weight.

Again personally, I would rather have a fat healthy breeding female than a female that just hit breeding weight breed.

That's just my two cents.

I appreciate your input. Yes she just hit 1500 grams. She has great tone and looks very healthy. Also, the way she is pounding her food I have little doubt she is going to add a couple hundred grams before anything even happens. I have a couple other girls that will definitiely be ready to go this coming season as they are both hovering around 1200 - 1300 grams but have finally started eating again. I just thought by trying to start earlier, it may spread out the clutches so that there is more of a flow then a flood of hatchlings all at once. Of course that is only if this girl cooperates and goes for me without waitng around for the more typical season.

Aslong as she is healthy weight, you have nothing to loose! Just keep pairing him 2-3 times a month see if anything happens.

They start to eat very aggressively when they are building follicles. This is exactly the time you want to pair. If you wait, she could re-absorb the follicles in which case she will not take until next year around this time.
