    Single hatchling tub setup
We will be getting a hatchling next week and I'm trying to get it's tub setup but running into some issues. We have racks for our other snakes but they are Iris CB-70 racks so obviously too big for a hatchling. So I'm trying to figure out how to setup a 6qt sterilite tub for the little one. Breeder just has bedding and water bowl in tub since he uses racks. If I do that and have sitting on an open shelf in our quarantine room, wouldn't he need hides? And if so, where would I find hides small enough to fit in a 6qt tub? Anyone have ideas on maybe a closed shelf idea similar to a rack but for just the one tub? In the past we would have just set up a 10 gallon tank. But since moving to racks really like tubs better.

Any and all suggestions welcome. Thank you!

Try with no hide and let the snake tell you if he wants one. I only use a hide for hatchlings if they are not eating regularly.

Check out Reptile Basics for small hides.

Reptile basics has the little black hides. You could also use little deli cups or any type of half cut dome item.

Could always tape construction paper to the sides of the tub

All you need to have in a hatchling setup tub is a water bowl and some hides depending on the snake. I'd go ahead and put the hides in for extra security since it doesn't hurt. You'll know if they don't want a hide when they site everywhere but inside it lol. I put a little stick on vine in some of my tubs for my really shy snakes just to give them extra coverage. [emoji4]

That's a no no. No tape should be used inside a snake's enclosure.

Sorry for any confusion I should have been clear. What I meant to say is you can tape construction paper to the OUTSIDE of the tub.

I also thought it would be a good idea to tape up a hide made of construction paper haha.

Don't laugh, but the black plastic rectangular containers that the Ramen/Nissin "Chow Mein" meals come in make great hides, and one will fit in a 6-qt tub. After running it though the dishwasher I use a sturdy set of scissors to cut an access hole, and I file any sharp edges off with an emery board. The meals themselves are usually $1 but I stock up for cheap lunches at work when they go on sale.

And yes, before anyone asks, I eat Ramen. How else can I afford my BP addiction?
