Shy eaters

Any one else have to do this to get their bps to eat?

It's kind of silly but I have to feed everyone as quickly as possible so I can cover up the shy ones before they abandon their meals!

It's kind of fun to figure out each snake's quirks. I have three that only eat if they're in their houses and the food is dangled outside the entrance (which makes sense I guess), and three who love to roam around and find their food. And of course I have the one jerk who only eats live > >. It works out though because I can leave the live food out near the rack and get everyone's feeding responses going.

lol that's funny. I normally feed my beast eaters first and the shy ones last, so I can flip the lights off and high tail it out of there before they change their mind haha

How many would you say are shy eaters?

About half? Mostly the younger ones. Because of a mold issue in my place I pretty much am confined to my living room, snakes and all, so I can't run out and leave them in peace haha.

If they're startled, they typically will go back and eat but I prefer to minimize the risk of a regurgitation or complete abandonment of a meal and keep stress to a minimum.

Lol, I use to do something pretty similar. If you ever get the opportunity to have a snake room it will make your life a thousand times easier! At least it did for mine!

My champagne is a sub adult and I`ve found out that she is so shy girl since I`ve received her from previous owner. Luckily, She eats pre-killed rat, so I always put down pre-killed rat in front of her hide box entrace and turn the light off and make surroundings completely dark. Normally, she finishes her dinner within an hour. She never comes out from her hide box if she sees any light.

I have 1 shy eater out of 9. I have to leave the F/T in his tub then leave him alone for 5 minutes to an hour before he eats it. I found this out when I first got him home and set the FT in the cage with him after dangling it and had to take a phone call, came back and it was gone. I have had him strike the food several times and leave it. He still only eats when left alone. That's pretty funny you have to drape your rack though to get yours to eat. It's so much better then having the regurge like you mentioned. I don't even want to talk about that after I had a recent situation that was very upsetting... Luckily my guys are in a spare room with little to no traffic. That is until my room hits max capacity at about 84-98 depending, so a few years ;D

I have a lil girl who won't eat in anything that has substrate or if there is any light or noise. Have had to put her in a little container over night while everyone is asleep to get her eat.
