Kalua's intro

So I finally got around to taking a picture of her when I had her out today cleaning her water and what not.


Not sure how old she is exactly but I know she's a baby haha. 68 grams I will feed her for the first time on Wednesday.

I picked her up from lll reptile and they say they feed them on Wednesdays so I will follow that system

Also I still need to get a tape measure to get her length apparently mine went missing out of my garage, her tub is doing pretty good with heat being 90ish on the hot side and 82-84 on the cool according to the zoomed gauges (I will buy better ones this Friday) the humidity is at lowest 40% if I spray in the morning before work by the time I get home. A lot of information sorry haha. Thanks for reading!

And not so much a concern but she wasn't in a hide at all when I took the lid off she was just balled up between the two. So I'm guessing she feels secure enough to come out?

She's a cutie! Definitely get some food in her, she's skinny! Sounds like you're on the right track, and I really like her name :) the only other thing I've heard recommended is having two identical hides instead of two mismatched, post up more pics when she gets some weight on :D

You don't have to feed "every Wednesday"; you can do a schedule that's better for you (and the snake) if you prefer. If you want to just keep it simple you can stick with what LLL Reptiles told you though. Personally, I think you'd be better off feeding every 5 or 6 days. There's a few really good threads on this forum about that, and how much to feed (i.e. 10-15% of body weight, or a rat the same thickness of the widest part of the snake's body).

I actually really like the look of your enclosure. It looks comfy, and secure for the snake. She may end up liking the black hide better than the log hide, but as long as you've got some options I think it's alright.
Digital thermometers are awesome! I also really like my temp gun, but they can be pricey. If you go to Wal-Mart, they have Accurite digital thermometers (probed) for $10. It's much cheaper than at the pet store.

Also, I wouldn't trust that hygrometer that says your humidity is at 40%. I'd bet it's at least 55-60%, with the tub and substrate and large water bowl you have. It's a good idea to buy digital hygrometers as well, but honestly, I have the gauges too (because I didn't want to invest more money -- that's my bad, I really should but I didn't) and I just use them as an estimate, to see if the humidity changes one way or the other... not so much a spot on percentage. I think you can tell well enough if the humidity is too high or too low, based on sheds of the snake, and what else is going on in the tub. I think some people might disagree with me here, but it's what works for me.

Thank you I hope she and I both do well together! I was more wanting a male because I hear they're typically smaller but I'm sure everyone who has ever bought a reptile knows that there's always one that just calls to you

One concern, your temperatures are a little hot on the cool side. People tend to strive to have their cool sides around 80, but sometimes people do like 77+.

Everything else seems fine as far as I can tell. Half the time when I put hides in with my snakes, especially if they're in a new place or after things have been changed a lot, they don't hide in the hides so much as the crack between them and the wall. So they tend to just go where they feel most secure/comfortable.

Can i reccomend getting used to weights as a measurment of growth rather than length with a tape measure. Its so much easier to weigh them than walk a tape measure down their body while theyre squirming and flinching. Honestly measuring length doesnt really provide any real valuable data and it will be easier to compare weights.

Welcome to the craze and its great to see newbies on here honing their knowledge olof their pets. Far too often do i see horror stories of uneducated bp owners and its always the snake that feels the reprocussions. Youve come to the right place!

For some reason this tapatalk app thing didn't show this or I would have commented to you to so my apologies! I actually caved and fed her today because I think 7 days is really quite long for a baby since they're doing the most growing compared to a full adult. I will probably do every 5 days or so until she slows down on growing. It's funny I picked up both a fuzzy mouse and a rat (same size as the fuzzy don't know the term used for them) and offered her the rat first because of recommendations. Well long story short she's picky and stubborn. Wouldn't eat it but as soon as I took that out and put in the fuzzy she was all over it. And thank you for the name complement [emoji4] I try to be as creative and unique as possible without looking up name ideas, I have a crested gecko and his name is Thor [emoji23]

Really the only thing I would want the length for is when she's full grown just as a fun fact knowledge of how long she is. I go by grams on any and all reptiles I own and I usually set up a chart and weigh them in once a month just to make sure they're gaining weight and not losing it. And I hope you guys would keep me in line as far as safety of the reptiles go! I try my best to keep myself inline and informed haha

What is the best way to cool down the tub without sacrificing much humidity loss? The gauges read on average 87-92 on the hot side but I'm not sure if the temp is much different if at all on the cool side. I will get fancy thermostats and what not Friday when I get paid. Also I plan on switching to flex watt what "regulator" I guess would be the name to call it. Would you use for controlling the heat it gives off? Thanks!
