Hog Island cage size question & update pics ;)

So right now I have my hog island in my bp 28 qt rack. She is doing great, and has enough room. She is over a year old now. My question is, how long will she have left in the 28qt rack, and what adult size cage does she need? I was figuring a 4'x2' cage from something like animal plastics. How well do they hold heat? What height of a cage is good? I might want to put her on display out of the heated closet. I figure she has another 2-3 years before reaching 90% of her full grown length

Great pictures! Stunning snake. Most people go with 4' x 2'.

I too recently ordered a few setups from Animal Plastics, but I'm yet to set them up or fill them (Repticon, end of august! here I come!) So I can't comment yet on Humidity ect. They receive good reviews, but until I do it myself, I can't really comment.

A 4 X 2 will be fine for her. Feed her sparingly as she is a BCI.

I feed her around every 7-10 days, and give her a week off every 4-5 feedings or so.

I'd suggest getting a 4 x 2 x 2. A lot of people keep their boas in 4 x 2 x 1, but I personally dislike the low height.

A friend asked about the size of tanks for her girls, so I put my large female in a 4 x 2 x 1 to show how small they are.

Ah, yeah, I can see how height makes a difference. The unfortunate part is the price over doubles for that foot for animal plastics. Is there another option that offers a more reasonably priced 4'x2'x2', but with the same quality?

Have you considered making your own enclosure?

There's many tutorials online that even list each piece length so you could get all your wood cut to length at the store and just put it together at home.

My wooden enclosures hold heat and humidity just fine. I line the inside of the cages with linoleum and seal the edges with aquarium silicone.

For cages needing heat tape, I cut out a section on the bottom of the tank, covered it with plexiglass and then attached the heat tape underneath the plexiglass on the outside of the enclosure. This way it just has to heat through the plexiglass and linoleum instead of the wood as well.

That isn't a bad idea at all. Maybe I'll make my own out of expanded pvc, instead of wood, or maybe I'll use wood too. I'm not sure what the pvc costs. Then plexiglass for the front... I'd just need to buy a lock and I'd be good. I'll look into this. For some reason I haven't considered it, even though I built my own rack :P

I've been looking into this as well. I think a 4 x 2 x 18" will work and give you enough height for a shelf too.. This is what I plan to get for my male. Constrictors NW and CSerpents also do cages, so you can check with them.

If you want the cage outside a heated room, you'll need heat tape on one end and a rhp for ambient temps. I am hoping to heat my reptile room so that rhps won't be necessary.
