    Damaged flexwatt melting tubs
I have my CB-70 rack on a thermostat set to 90F but somehow a small section of the flex watt heat tape has become damaged and is burning the tub. I'm not sure what I can do. Would it be safe to place electrical tape over the damaged area? I am afraid my snake could get burned, or worse, a fire could start.

Ummm fire hazard! stop using that rack completely! Replace the tape immediately! When you disassemble the rack measure how much heat tape you need Reptile Basics is a great place to buy heat tape they will cut it to length and assemble the connections for you.

Yeah stop using the rack or unplug that level if you can do that and replace the heat tape. Dont want to start a fire!

Unplug immediately, check the animal in the burn tub, if it's a BP he could have lay on the top of the are that was melting.

    Order some some new flexwatt.

Did you build or buy your rack?

Thanks guys! I will order some new heat tape from reptilebasics, until then, I have another rack I can move everyone over to. I think the issue may have been caused by the tubs catching on the heat tape. Is it possible to tape down the heat tape better to prevent the tubs from catching? I did not build theses racks, they are from reptilebasics.

When you get new tape, check your thermostat settings and probe placement. Maybe you had it up too high?

If the racks are from Rich then get with him.

I know the temps were right because I have a thermometer probe and temp gun.

I will be contacting reptilebasics. Can anyone provide a link as to how to set up a CB-70? It looks pretty simple but a guide would be helpful.

Rich will help you out I have some of his 41qts very easy to disassemble/ reassemble. In regards to taping it down you can use aluminum tape you shouldn't have to with rbi racks though.

For reference I use 1 inch gorilla(glue) tape and it will not lift. It will peel up on your effort but the tubs slide right over it. Aluminum tape will lift and after a while can possibly cause a short. Electricity + metal tape is going to conduct so I opt for gorilla tape. No residue either.
