How long should you keep Feeders in the freezer before you deem them no good ....

I'm planning to place an order for frozen feeder rats obviously because of the savings you get by ordering more at a time, I am inquiring on how long you can safely keep frozen feeders before they should be thrown out due to loss of nutrition or deemed unfit to feed to your ball pythons for any other reasons such as freezer burn, etc. ?

If they're vacuum sealed, you can keep them for probably a couple years before they get freeezer burned. Loose un-bagged rodents get burned in a few days, rodents packed in ziplocks will start freezer burning in a week or so. But really it's only on the toes and ears and tails. And freezer burn is just dehydration, so when you thaw them, if you use water, it pretty much solvews the problem unless the whole rodent is beef jerky.

I would vacuum seal them in small packs so you can pop out a pack every time you need to feed. :gj:

As long as they are properly frozen, they don't really have a shelf life. Just make sure the bag they are in stays sealed when its in the freezer and you shouldn't have to worry about burn. I've had some bags of rats probably close to 8 months before I got around to using the feeders.

I have heard one year but they never seem to be around long enough for me to tell.
