I need help!! Starved bp!!

On the 4th of July I went over to a cousin's house only to see a site that almost led me to tears. It was her husband's beautiful but skinny 2yr old BP named Gloria. Her living conditions were horrible. One of the kids told me she hadn't eaten since DECEMBER!! Then my cousin told me that she was last fed in MARCH and her tank was cleaned then. I went off on everyone in the house old enough to know better than to leave a snake like that. Their excuse was it was the husband's snake and he no longer lived there. The idiot told them the snake could go a year without eating so no one was worried about feeding her. After my rant they made and attempt to clean her tank. I rushed to Petco 10 minutes before closing and with a quick google search and help from worker, I purchased a new tank, a hide, and the stuff you put at the bottom of the tank, and a rat. Sorry if I'm using the wrong words for this stuff but I'm use to just caring for dogs. I gave them a month to get their act together but fear Gloria may not have that long. She is beautiful and sweet. I have promised to take her and provide the care she needs if they don't get their act together and provide proper care for her. I joined this forum and page to help her. Please give any advice to help poor Gloria. Please take her from them. They don't care about her. Initial set up: 41qt sterilite 9 dollars, aspen bedding 10 dollars, 3 pack of FT small rats 6 dollars, UTH 20 dollars. Then post back on here. You'll need to monitor humidity and temperature, going the cheap route which is fine for now is 11 bucks at petco. Get a membership and start saving lol I spent 20 free dollars today from mine. She needs a clean water bowl without shedding in it. She needs 2 hides which you can make, you can even use a walmart paper bag or now. There have been worse that I've seen on here but still I would take her in a heart beat. What size tank did you buy? The 41qt is cheap so buy one of those and take the tank back. Take the hide back too. The sterilite is recommended over a tank in part because it will hold humidity better. Having said that you will need to poke holes in it to make sure it does have airflow. Now I'm going to be worried lol

The only thing Alan left out? Get a thermostat for the head pad. They can be dangerous without them. If you can NOT get one (30.00 Hydrofoam), either up the ambient temperatures where you are to mid 80s or get overhead lighting. There are some care sheets here, but take it slow on feeding her and get her warmed up.

Wow that is sad and disgusting. I would definitely not give them a chance to "get their act together" since up until this point they seem uninterested in the snake and could care less and will most likely continue to do so until it's dead, which the snake doesn't deserve. I'm continuously amazed how stupid and heartless people are with animals, especially reptiles. :mad:

Definitely follow all of the advice given. I'd take her out of their possession IMMEDIATELY!! They have literally starved/abused this poor poor snake. They don't need to have any sort of animal in their possession what so ever. What they have done is completely unacceptable. I also wouldn't try putting her in a 41qt. She's so small and probably extremely stressed and covered in stuck shed. Putting her in a smaller tub will help her feel more secure. Please keep us updated on this poor girl. Take her out of there ASAP. They obviously don't give a lick about her. I doubt they're going to start because you lectured them if they were willing to let the snake just wither away and die because the owner wasn't around. I'd go for a 15 qt (4 dollars), she'll probably be stressed in something as big as a 41 qt. You can get a hydrofarm thermostat for the heat pad online and have it shipped in a couple days, use overhead lighting until then. Don't jump her temps too high too fast, or feed her too big food. Just ease her into actually being taken care of.

That snake would have been better off escaping. This is just sad and makes me extremely upset. Balls are supposed to be fat boddied and can hunger strike. This guy hasnt been fed for a year. Just sick people. There should be an animal rights police for these and dog abusers . Real time and penalties. Please help this poor snakie. :( u where chosen as its angel. I have to say... of all the rescue stories I've seen, this has got to be the worst (conditions).

As everyone has said, TAKE THE SNAKE. IMMEDIATELY.Even if you are used to caring for dogs, you CLEARLY care about the health and well-being of this poor girl. You will do wonderfully, and you have come to the right place. Kudos to you for sticking up for her and giving them where-what-for, but I do think you should take the snake.

Please keep us updated, and search for some more threads on rescues. You will want to feed, but not too much too fast. Start off quite slow, but consistent. It will take a lot of time and patience - and probably money as well, if there are other health issues going on, which is possible.

The poor little baby.

If you are able, please take it away from them. It is quite obvious to them it is already dead. They don't care about it at all, if they did it would never have gotten like this. It will be a long and slow road back, if the snake survives at all. You can find all kinds of good information and help here. I know you aren't a reptile person, yet, but if you are able to help this poor animal please do. You will need a small enclosure, source of heat, source of humidity, and SMALL food items. In this condition, you should feed very small meals a little more frequently rather than large meals to try and play catch up. If you offer too large of a food item, that alone might kill the poor thing. If you cannot or will not feed live, go with frozen, but do read up here to help you learn how best to do it. Start off small, like a medium size mouse, but offer every 5 days for a while.

If you are fortunate, the baby will take too food pretty easily, and it won't take too long for it to get back on the right track. If you get the snake and feel you are in over your head, perhaps someone here with more experience would be willing to take the snake and care for it. This is going to put a great deal of stress on you, but it will be worth it in the end.

You need 2 feet of this. THe 32qt are 17" wide so this allows you to take it up both sides. When you check out select the option to let them wire it for you.

Simple instructions:
Take a razor blade and trim 5 inches roughly from the bottom
With it inverted cut an "entryway" that is just enough for it to get through.
Take a lighter and around the cut edges heat them. They will smooth out. I use a pen torch.
Let cool (5mins) and wash and there is a 1.50 hide they will love.


This is around 55.00 after shipping for the tape and taxes. All you need to do is line with paper towels and fill the water bowl.
