    Het Caramel Sub fertile??
    Hi,

I recently purchased a Butter/Lesser female ball. I purchased her solely for the Butter/Lesser gene however; the seller also mentioned she was bred using a Male Caramel Albino X Butter/Lesser female. Since he did not have proof, the seller did not advertise her as such and only let me know after the sale. Since learning she may be het for Caramel, I have been reading up on the Caramel gene and have learned there are some complications with the female visual Caramel being sub fertile. My question to all is this also true for a Het female or does is it only affect the visual animal?

    Hi,

I've only heard it referred to as a problem with visual caramel females.

    Hets should be fine. :)

    Thank you Dr. Del

I was hoping this was the case. With that being said, would it be in the best interest to breed a Visual male to her or a male that is Het for Caramel? My first thought would be to use a Caramel to prove she indeed Het for Caramel. Then, I began thinking it may be better to buy a male that is Het for Caramel but is some other type of morph so I can also utilize her Butter/Lesser gene more effeciently. Thoughts or suggestions?

I would get a visual caramel on the off chance she really isn't het. That would guarantee you get at least hets, and maybe prove her out at the same time. If she does prove out, you have a chance of getting lesser caramels, and then you can utilize other genes to their maximum.
