Very excited!

New snake! The kids and I picked out a female Coastal Carpet today at our local expo. She is 1 year 2 months old and is about 3.5 feet long by eye guessing.

What a nice compliment to the 2 year old Barranquilla, Colombian boa, and our 3 year old royal.

I'll get some pics up when she settles a bit. Nobody knows me here because I'm mostly on the RTB forum.

I looked into SD retics, Eastern kings and Peruvian BCC's and I think I'll be very happy with a carpet. She came out of her hide and is already using her perches since the timers switched off the day lights and turned on the moon lights.

I picked this species because of the semi arboreal traits, just like my boa, but even more so and the likelihood of 8-9 feet.

Lots to learn about these guys/girls.

This Coastal looks like a jungle, though not a pretty jungle. I'm going to have to buy THE COMPLETE CARPET PYTHON. I believe Nick Mutton is the author. I know the purity in the US is quite questionable and jungles and coastals overlap.

I may have a mutt, an ugly jungle, or a jungle looking coastal.

I'm thrilled either way.

I was hoping to hear how your carpet is in comparison to the boas you own.

Just when I thought my boa was going terrestrial, he took to his new cage, with the new 2" thick perches and was all over the place! I think he's a climber for life.

Even more so, the carpet has not touched the substrate once. She (popped not probed) is up and wrapped on something all of the time.

From the pics it really looks like a jungle. If it's only a year old it is most likely still color changing though. Hatchlings carpets don't come put with their natural colors and it changes with each shed until they get their adult colors. I am not sure exactly how long that takes but I have heard it can take a few years.

If it was sold to you as a coastal it most likely still needs to grow into its colors. If it still looks like a jungle when it's grown more I would think you may have been lied to that those are the parents.

Looking back at the pics though it does really look like a jungle. I don't know why you say an ugly jungle. It just looks like a typical jungle. If you are just comparing it to the high yellow jungles, those aren't really natural looking. They are bred to get those colors. In the pics it looks more like a regular jungle carpet.

I only say ugly jungle because of the exact point you made LOL! I truly am into the natural colors most snakes come with and though morphs are fine, I typically look for Mother Nature paint jobs.

I was not promised a coastal though it was sold as one. The breeder rescued the mother and he said there is the possibility that she is not pure. Although I really can't see how two coastals that look like that produced what I have.

Is there an advantage in selling something as a coastal VS a jungle? I thought maybe it would be the other way around.

I fed her last night so I can't get er out for more pictures just yet.

FYI, all of my pictures are in terrible lighting. The expo pics are from my I-Phone, and the cage pictures are horrid lighting shots.

I am rather excited to see just what I'll end up with here.

Did you pop it or are you talking about what the breeder did when it was first born? From my understanding popping is only reliable when snakes are hatchlings. If yours is over a year old popping might not work.

Popped in front of me at expo. Appears female. Most mistakes are more likely male being female rather than other way around. In any event I will get it probed at some point just to know the sex.

It looks more jungle to me too. Very pretty.

My carpet is NOTHING like my boas.... or anything like my GTPs either, matter of fact. My Jag is a PISTOL. Incredibly alert and she would very much like to eat me. They are amazing to hold. My boas are so laid back compared to her!

And her feeding response. OMG. I thought the boas were hard hitting. She puts them to shame.......
