    Snake room flooring (poll)
    Hello folks!
I was wondering what flooring everyone is using in the area they keep their snakes, or what flooring you would use if you could choose. If you have used multiple types of flooring, I'd love to hear about the positives and negatives of the ones you have tried.

    Thanks for your input!

Right now got hardwood. I have matts or a buffer of some sort under each rack to stop scratches. I would prefer a room with carpet. It would be harder to clean but insulates better then hardwood.

I currently have carpet as my snake room is a spare bedroom. I would prefer something durable and easy to clean like vinyl.

I've actually been thinking about this for when we get our house. I was thinking vinyl as well. Carpet is a pain to vacuum the shavings from the snakes and rats. Hardwood would look nicer but more expensive and I don't want it to get scratched.

My reptile room is currently my home office so we have carpet, however once our garage is converted I am going to put down the rubber style "gym" flooring so the Lizards will get roaming time and I won't have to worry about waste seeping into anything. Just wipe it up and move on.

Hot room is in the garage on top of concrete. We threw down several layers of trashy-ish large rugs/carpet for insulation.

Mine is carpet, mostly because I haven't changed it from when I bought the house, it's awful green shag. Hoping to finally rip it up this summer, there's hardwoods underneath but they are beat up, just planning to throw a rug over the middle and call it good.

Carpet, not by choice though. It's annoying as hell to clean especially if you had a minor spill from anything. The carpet soaks up all the bad smells and mess.

I personally wouldn't go with wood either unless it was treated since my hobby room tends to be real humid. Maybe vinyl?

    Thanks for your input everyone!

We're closing on a house this Friday and I want to get the snake room flooring changed before we move in. It is currently carpet (which I have in the room they're in now). I hate the carpet I have now because it is very difficult to clean and to wheel stuff around on.

I'm thinking about going with vinyl if I can get a decent quality vinyl sheet that looks good and holds up well for a good cost... We're trying to stay under $3/ft. I am also considering tile, but am not sure if it would be an advantage or harder to clean. The only disadvantage to vinyl I can see is that it will dent if heavy things are placed on it.. I have a large storage shelf unit (metal) that I currently use, so I'll have to figure out if that will be an issue.

Thanks again for your advice! When the snake room is done, I'll take pics and post. I may do a progression thread.. Hoping to paint the room and add extra outlets, etc. as well.
