Why is it that BPs seem to prefer live food? I know how to gradually switch over, but I was wondering if there is a specific reason.

It's because they have the heat pits and have a good enough sense of taste/ smell to know when it is still alive - plus the movement. Nature designed them to be good hunters. :)
