New BP owner looking for advice!
This past Friday I purchased my first Ball python, she is 2 years old and I bought her from a collector looking to downsize. I was told she is live feed only and tends to eat every Friday/Saturday. I tried feeding her Saturday around 10:30 pm but she wouldn't take the mouse. From what I have read a new environment can be stressful and cause her not to eat. Now this may be a silly question but I feel I should ask anyways. Because I bought her terrarium and everything with it and kept it the same will it help the snake adjust to having a new owner more quickly? Also should I try to avoid handling her for a day or so before trying to feed again? I appreciate any tips and feed back!

Leave her alone for a week until the next feeding day and then attempt to feed again. Having the same house may speed the process but I would still wait before handling. It had still gone through many changes.

Leave her alone for a week or two before handling her. Then try to feed her. Try to keep then same feeding schedule as the original owner also. Good luck!!:)

Also make sure to check out the care sheet on the main forum page :) it's got some excellent stuff. It's a great way to make sure you were given all the proper equipment and the right advice as well, with regards to husbandry and whatnot.

    All the best, and congrats!

All good advice. Also though, if your BP is 2 years old it should be eating larger than mice. Probably either a medium or large rat. Research a lot, and stay here. There's a lot of REALLY knowledgable people on this site. You will learn a great deal. You'll probably also find it addicting and want more :)

Congratulations on your new pet. They sure are a lot of fun

Yes, it certainly should be eating more per meal than 1 mouse. However, if it has only been fed 1 mouse/wk it probably has grown slowly and may not be big enough to take a medium or large rat.

If it was obtained from a collector then thats unlikely the case. It needs larger meals.
