New setup for first ball python- please let me know if I need to make changes!
I just picked up my first ball python yesterday. (I'm so excited!) She is six months old and according to the person I bought her from, has been eating well. I wanted to house her in an aquarium for the sake of visibility and aesthetics. I put black paper along three sides of the tank and put some foil over 2/3 of the top to retain humidity. There is an under tank heater to the left and a heat light that I have on a very dim setting (I turned it up for the pics) because it seemed a bit cold -it's up to around 82 degrees ambient now on the warm end. The substrate is aspen bedding.

I made some temporary hides out of small cardboard boxes and will replace them as they get soiled until I find something more permanent. I put extras in because it seemed like a big tank for such a small snake.

    Here are the pics:

    Questions:

Does the setup generally seem all right?

Do I need to adjust temps?

My snake seems to be only hanging out in the back corner by the plant on the cool end- not in a hide. You can kind of see her in the second picture. Should I be concerned about this/ adjust anything?

    Thanks for your help!

Looks ok. Do you have a hot spot? Try getting identical hides on opposite sides.

Also how are you measuring temps/humidity?

I have a junky thermometer at the moment so it may not be terribly accurate. I'm planning to pick up a digital one tomorrow.

Ok good. Wats the temp of the hot spot?

I just checked. Says it's above 90. I guess I should cool it down, right?

Its supposed to be 90. You have a temp gun?

It's on the shopping list! Do you have any recommendations? I brought the temp down a bit with the dimmer on the heat pad. I really appreciate all of your help.

With my current set up my light is in the middle for ambient temps and my hot spot has the under tank heater on a thermostat. (With it being so warm upstairs, I haven't even had lights on) if your room is cool though I would worry the ambient temp on the far right is going to be too cold....

You will have problems with too little humidity. Might need to ditch the light and put a cover and insulation on that tank.
