Sperm Plugs

I've heard of some people breeding males as young as 6 months successfully. I am wondering - how do you know if your male is producing sperm plugs? Do you probe, pop, or just pair them and see if they lock? Will a male lock that is not producing plugs? What is the smallest or more importantly youngest a male has bred and produced babies for you?

I had a late 2013 415g male breed to my Lesser. Within 1 lock i assume (since gf accidentally placed him in her tub, wasn't planning on breeding her till next season)

Alot of time when popping a mature male, youll get the splugs, or even the residue of sperm, its always a good sign.

Sometimes you find sperm plug in old shed or in a corner of the enclosure, best thing to do if you really want to know, pop your male ;)

Over the years I have tried small males but nothing never came out of those pairings, now I don't even waste my time anymore on males under 600 grams... plus I am in no rush.

It is wrongly labeled and is not an actual sperm plug. It is actually hemipenal shed. Just because a male is producing them, does not mean that he can successfully breed. Too bad we can't get away from this term.

if it's hemipenal shed, how come it happens a lot more than regular sheds? does that mean the hemipenes are growing quicker than the rest of the snake? i've seen it coming from my snakes within a span of few days...just asking.....
