Feeding Questions

I got a normal ball python about a week ago at a pet store. He is about 20 inches an Im unsure about his weight because I have no scale. I am feeding him frozen/thawed SMALL mice. I fed him this past Friday. Is weekly feeding okay or should I feed him 2x a week? I have 50 frozen small mice in my freezer

If he eats 2 in one week.. There ya go .. After you run out of those small mice, upgrade to large mice or rat pups.

Thank You. I got small mice because that's what the pet store had been feeding and figured I would just keep up with what they were doing but after reading so many posts about owners feeding rats and some feeding 2x weekly I figured I would ask to be on the safe side.

Go to WalMart or Target and get a kitchen scale that registers weight in grams as well as ounces. Figure out how many grams your BP weighs, then weigh a feeder mouse. You can feed a young male BP 10-15% of its body weight every 5-7 days until it reaches 500 grams, then one small rat every 7-10 days.

When he gets older he may decide not to eat for a few weeks or months, which normally causes more anguish to you than the critter.

Also, if your pet store sold you a female - shops mis-sex snakes all the time - she may get big enough to take a medium rat after a few years.
